Default Clutch grabs high

I am getting old and cognition has diminished. My clutch grabs at end of peddle travel , all at once. There is no easing in from a stop. Can I make an adjustment and what would it be?
Thank You

How much free-play is there ?

Probably the easiest thing to try is too increase free-play.

Should have about an inch of clutch pedal free play at the top. First, check your clutch arm down on side of transmission case where it is pinned to the clutch shaft, it may be cracked. Snyder's and others sell a replacement arm that should out last the car.

There are a number of things that can cause the clutch to grab. First, adjust the free play to 1 inch by adjusting the clutch linkage. The clutch is slightly cone shaped so that the clutch engages smoothly a little at a time. If it is worn or not adjusted correctly that can cause the clutch to grab. The clutch plate may be worn to the point where it needs to be replaced. Oil or grease on the clutch plate may cause it to grab. Broken parts, as discussed above, can cause grabbing.

If possible, take the car to a mechanic for inspection and repair. A modern clutch and transmission shop should be able to help.

i have adjusted the pressure plate fingers while the engine and tranny were still in the car. through the top inspection cover.
i found that this is not an easy job that can not be done accurately. (at least i couldn't)
i did however get them close and improved the function of the pressure plate, i looked at it as a bandade until the problem could be dealt with when the engine or the tranny was out of the car.

You have too much free play as others have stated, check for broken worn linkage. Lubricate the TO bearing it has a grease fitting on it, that maybe a cause of the grabbing and stiff Clutch pedal

I think the pressure plate should come off for the correct and most accurate adjustment. i made this tool for adjusting the finger height. A piece of .125"x1"x7.5" aluminum angle and a small scrap piece of aluminum from when I was test cutting key tags and just glued it on with JB Weld.

Regards
Bill

Too much freeplay and the clutch would be grabbing at the bottom, not the top.Sounds like the clutch is either a worn out old one,or the fingers were not adjusted before installing the trans. They SHOULD always be adjusted with a new disc in place. In reality I have not found any problems with one a little worn in.Disc is supposed to be .340 thick, and dead flat.any warpage and all bets are off.

The adjustment pin is threaded in as tight as it will go and it is rusted there. I will order a new one and pull up the floor boards and check the pressure plate. The car is drivable as is . Thanks for the info

don't take this the wrong way, but are you adjusting the rod in the correct direction?

i have adjusted the clutch pedal heights many times, and every time i go under the car i have to check that i am adjusting the rod length in the correct direction.
i always seams backward to me.

just a thought.

The adjustment screw is rusted and I will not force. When the new one comes in I will pull boards and cover and do it right
