Default Worded a different way

What has been done to a engine where you have to use a spacer for the two bolt dist mounting.the timing cover is for two bolt dist but dist snout is to long. This is in a 39 sedan not mine but a guy asking for help sence the snout was broken off the dist.I think the spacer was homemade because the mounting bolts went thru the spacer into timing cover to hold the whole thing togeather .I saw the correct spacer on Speedway book.

He put a 2 bolt dist which has a long snout into a engine which has a longer cam shaft. 39 engines have a helmet dist which has a short snout, mismatched parts. ken ct.

Don, those early engines had a snout on the front of the cam about the size of a half dollar that stuck out about 3/8 of an inch with the slot for the helmet dist. If you install a 2 bolt cover and a crab dist witch is longer when it engauges the slot it still sticks out to far so you need that spacer behind the dist. Ford did away with that snout on front of the cam in 42 with the crab, Walt
