Although I have a trunk measured to fit on top the slats, I prefer era luggage. Bottom suitcase is bolted to the luggage frame but it gives you a good idea the purpose of the slats when used as a luggage rack. If not being using then by all means, show it with slats in the upright position for decoration....IMO.

As a Junior Member I'm still learning.....hope this photo comes thru.
I cut a piece of wood that was lying about, painted it black, attached rope hooks to the bottom that allow me to use a "trucker's hitch" to secure items to the rack. Size and weight would be the only considerations, most anything could be carried. Pictured are "lug" boxes that were used here in the valley in the "olden days" to harvest crops. Russ

Building the trunk. I have the box fit up but not glued up. Shown upside down. I'm going to cut the angle after the box is glued up.

Russ...question about the gas station in your member photo...is it a relic or a retro? Can you post a bigger photo of it please? Thanks

Ed,
I was told that some material from the original building was used in the reconstruction. The station was located in Centerville, Ca. It was first rebuilt on a local rancher's property then it was moved in sections and reassembled at the Eastern Fresno County Historical Society's Museum on the grounds of the Sierra High School campus on Tollhouse Road in Auberry, Ca. They have a website.
Some of the contents are original to the building. Much of what is included came as donations from members and the public.
I haven't figured out how to get photos into these replies but I will get what I have into a public album here. Russ

Thanks Russ.....I have aspirations of building something similar. That looks about the size and structure that I'd like to have....whether I have time this summer is still to be seen. I will check your albums for any additions.

I built a trunk, and the chairs and tools, and some spare parts.

Chairs? I thought that's what running boards are for.

To sit on
