Default 46 merc coupe project

looking at a 46 merc very solid rust free car..body was off frame and everything rebuilt including trans and rearend.the engine is a rebuilt 49 merc ,3/4 race cam, mallory ign, fenton headers and complete exhaust system w/smittys right now it has a single Stromberg 97 but a complete dual carb setup comes with the deal, has all parts to compleat car...plus many many extra parts extra hood, rear fender all stainless,,all parts are in excellent cond...its too good of a deal to pass up,,the owner died and his nephew now has it he was going to finish it but that never happened, engine is sitting very high ,I think due to exhaust manifold steering box clearance, water pumps look strange also anyone know what they are?

look like Ford truck waterpumps, which is what you need to run that engine in pre-'49 vehicle....yep, home grown spacers to get the engine up above steering box....interesting to run oil filter like that....wonder if the block has been modified for the "full-flow" filter setup.....have you ran the engine and does it show oil pressure??....otherwise, nice project....Mike

Those look more like 49-early 51 Merc style pumps because of that spacer. would most likely be 49 because of the wide belts IMHO

Your pumps are 50/51 Merc. narrow belt. the fan assy. is also Merc.
you can get a oil filter kit from Mac's that bolts to the drivers side head.
the oil filter return line should go to the block below the ex. manifold. the setup you have now looks like a temporary thing someone did.

I also should have said you can find a used original cartridge type oil filter setup that bolts to the head. the engine looks great!
