Default tough shifting at higher rpms

With the factory three speed and also with the t5 I find it hard or stiff to pull it out of a gear for the next one when I rev over 4k.
Why and how can I loosen things up?

try a little less free play in the clutch pedal, maybe a 1/2", some pressure plates have cintrifical weights built in them, the higher the revs the harder they grip the clutch, mades it a little harder for the clutch to release
