New & old cars & coffee

Last month when my wife and I were at our local coffee shop there was a gathering of young people who own nice newer cars, Porsche, BMW, Toyota & Hondas. One showed up with a 1975 Corolla all tricked out. I got to talking with the owner how everyone should own an old car and that I had an old Ford.
So this morning I took the’28 roadster down. The car was an instant hit with the drivers. They were really interested in the old technology and the fact that their rides had such humble origins.

Great story. There is a lot of friction between the old car and new car owners. I find a lot of the 50-60s car owners don't like modern iron hotrods at the cars and coffee cruises. Usually older is much more acceptable. I like nice cars regardless of year, a nice car is a nice car. When I was younger I took great pride in the car I could afford at the time, and many of the young hobbyists are at that point in their lives. These young folks are the ones that will be buying our old cars one day if they find any interest at that point.

We took 5 to a local car show called Thunderfest - as you can guess from the name hot rods and some lowriders. The As were a hit and it took us until late in the evening to get enough space for a photo.

Katy, the shiny square is a cowl vent. The Unauthorized Accessory book shows these as Breezin Ventilators with a list price of $3.50
These came with my car when I got it 30 years ago. In all that time, I’ve only ever seen one other set. That was at a national meet and the price was $400.
They help keep my feet cool, although I don’t think a roadster needs a lot more airflow.
