All four surfaces on each cap need to be perfectly flat after the material is removed. The cap will move around if its not flat. The only area that's not critical is the locating step so using a file on that flat surface would be fine. Tying to hand file the curved surfaces would be impossible for the needed accuracy.

Just wondering how many guys did this? Once the cap is torqued down, how much could it move in a stock or near stock engine. We'll probably never know!!!

I've seen them broken in stock engines.
