Default 1955 Ford Thunderbird rubber trunk mat.

Most of the Thunderbirds show a plaid trunk mat was this the original equipment? My '55 has a black rubber mat and fits perfectly and looks original.Mold numbers are BAA 4045456-BA and it is FOMOCO in an oval. Probably a repo but non of the catalogs I have show a rubber mat except Casco and it says part of '56 year only. Thank You

37 Coupe, the black mat is original for the 55 Tbird (I have one). It's being reproduced, but at $300+, it's more costly than the 56-57 plaid trunk mat. Plaid is not correct for 55.

Thanks Black tie for the information. The mat I have is probably a repro but also may have been made by original Ford supplier moulds. I have always heard that the Early V8 Ford mats like my '37 one was repro made from the original moulds but all of the moulds were old and worn out thus most mats either for trunk or interior were flawed with cracks in the moulds. The mat I have has the Ford part # an FoMoCo.

Vulcanized processes are hard on molds.

My car has been in the family for 50 years. Although my mat is in great shape, I'm assuming it's original. However, there's nothing special about a 55-57 Tbird trunk; it's pretty utilitarian.
