Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
When I went to start my S/W I had to pull my lever down all the way to start. SO I went to retime the system. When I removed the timing pin I found oil on the end on pin. This car had not be started in a year. I think that the gaskets are all shot. Not a good engine guy.

Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
i would check to see if your oil pan is full of water
that would raise the oil up into that area tk

Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
Oil enters the valve train from the pump, splashes around there a bit, goes down tubes to the bearings and also flows over a raised portion in the front of the engine to the timing gear.
If your timing pin has oil and the oil is not flowing out the hole with the engine off, it seems to me to be working fine.

Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
Thank You Mike V., I just have a timing problem, it jumps time, I think the Cam is not engaging the the upper shaft fully, it has a new cam and screw @. The cam is moving both forward and backward, I hit the upper shaft with a tool to rough it up but may need to replace.

Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
If you have to much backlash you need to check the distributor drive
gear and the slots in the shaft for ware. Bob |

Re: Timing cover fill of oil and timing off
Thank you , I will pull the side cover off and take a look, The shaft is a two piece and the lower piece was not replaced when build in 1973.
