Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
In the USA, the 1938 Ford Deluxe Convertible Coupes were available in two different models, the regular Convertible Coupe that had a Rumble Seat, and teh Club Convertible Coupe that that a rear seat. These two illustrations are from the original Canadian 1938 Ford Sales Brochure. Both models had Glass side Windows. The USA never produced a Roadster in 1938. |

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Just to be different, Ford Australia produced two different Roadsters, a Deluxe Roadster and a Standard Roadster. Both models had Side Curtains and no Glass side Windows. Remember, the Roadster was discontinued in the USA for 1938. Check out these two pages from the Original Australian 1938 Ford Sales Brochure. Maybe Ford in South America may have also offered a 1938 Ford Deluxe Roadster, like what was offered in Australia? |

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Maicu, the above information is good. Your particular Ford would not have been manufactured in and for America, but but may have been for export, I don't have that information. Argentina may have assembled a Roadster version as Australia had. The American 1938 Ford DeLuxe Convertible Coupe had roll up windows, while your model would have been discontinued the previous year as a 1937 Ford DeLuxe Roadster. If you can post some pictures of your car, we can confirm all this for you.
The rumbleseat is opened with the large handle below that resembles an aircraft propeller. If your car has the original brakes, they are mechanical, actuated by cables, and are superior to Ford's hydraulic system of brakes that began the following year.

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
38 should be mechanical (cable) brakes, 39 was the first year for hydraulic brakes.

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Here are some larger pictures of your South American 1938 Ford Deluxe Roadster. It looks very presentable. |

Here are pictures of an Australian 1938 Ford Deluxe Club Roadster. Note that this car has a Trunk Lid, not a Rumble Seat Lid like the South American car has. Last edited by mercman from oz; 03-15-2021 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Description change |

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Notice that this Australian 1938 Ford Deluxe is a Club Roadster, and not a Convertible Coupe. It does not have Wind-up Windows and has Wind Deflectors on the Windscreen. Ford Australia never offered a Convertible in 1938. The first year that they offered a Convertible here was 1939, and the same Convertible body was carried over into 1940, but with 1940 front sheet metal. From 1941 onwards, only Fordor Door Sedans were assembled here, plus the Coupe Utility. So, 1940 was the last year that an "open car" was offered locally by Ford Australia. The end of a special era of early Fords. |

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Hi Tub1, I believe that the same family owns it, even though the husband died many years ago. I don't think that it gets driven these days.

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Another Australian 1938 Ford Deluxe Club Roadster. What a beautiful example of the model. Very few remain, as there were not many when new. |

Re: 1938 Convertible Deluxe Coupe
Just for you maicu, an extremely rare 1938 Ford Standard Club Roadster. This is the only example that I personally know of. |
