Interesting. That was called "THE FAIRLANE SWEEP" wasn't it? Didn't some very early 55's come through like that?

The top is interesting also. Did you put the QTR GLASS/OPERA WINDOW in?

“The story I heard”, or urban legend. A ranking Ford exec wanted that trim on the birds to help sell the Fairlane. They finally talked him out of it, but they built one for him as his company car. The pictures I saw also included the continental kit, with the full bumper extensions and stainless tubes for the exhaust pipes to the overriders. It was not a styling triumph in my opinion.

There’s been other bird’s with that trim fitted, and I think one of them was from WA state. I’ve got a picture of it on a Thunderbird calendar taken in front of the Teapot Dome gas station just east of Yakima WA. (Ziillah actually),

Ford sold porthole kits for hardtops that didn’t come with them. I bought the repops and added them (traffic is heavy here),so my top has both the crest emblem and the porthole.

Not a bad looking car, and I like the trim on the beltline from the front of the door back, but for some reason, the part on the fender doesn't look right to me, but it is not my car. just my opinion, and you know how that goes

Forget where, but I read that the first ones built were drilled for the side trim from Fairlanes, but the idea was dropped, and they welded up the holes on early '55's.

If I am reading the numbers right, my '55 was built in Sept. '54, and is the 112th one ever built.

I can squeeze my arms inside the front fender and it seams (sic) to have a line of spot welds where the trim would have gone.

"Yep as most conversions are using GM DELCO-MORON parts …"

I know this is a Ford forum, but no need to bad mouth GM. They made nice cars too.
A lot of people have their preferred brand, but some people like all old cars (like me).

I think you meant to say Delco-Morrain, not Moron.

May seem like a trivial slam to you, but offensive to people here that also like GM, ect.

Maybe it's just my personality, but bothers me.

I see we are a$$-u-me(ing) now...

No, I intentionally meant DELCO-MORON, not to disrespect GM but to point out these so-called DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KITS assemblers that source only dedicated GM parts to save them money. Not all of the kits are correctly assembled for the particular vehicle. But then again, that is the owner's choice.

Now, I am so very sorry that I have upset your very sensitive nature. That was not intended.

What I would suggest between us is either you block my posts and/or inform the GRAND POO-PAH here that I am upsetting you and to put me out to pasture.

Enough of high jacking a thread, OK?

You post your response and then we will let it go...

Some conversions involved Granada parts. The Y Block Magazine had an article on how to do it for about one third the cost of the conversion kits. I was ridiculed at a car show once for having a Delco alternator on my 55. I told the guy, its not from a Chev. Its from a John Deere. (Delco alternators are seen on Cat, and most other heavy equipment.)

Delco-Remy and ACDelco are no longer part of GM. Now days it's Delphi Technologies. It may not a part of GM anymore but it still supplies parts to them. I think Moraine, Ohio was where Delco brake division started out. Delco Electronics started out in Dayton as Dayton Engineering Laboratories Co.

A lot of GM stuff ended up being sourced for the aftermarket since so much of it was manufactured over the years. The small block Chevy engine design and Delco-Remy alternators are everywhere you look in the aftermarket business. Patents ran out long ago.

Nothing worth arguing about. If folks buy stuff without checking it out then they fall into the Pt Barnum axiom about suckers. I use a lot of old GM crap too since I have a few of them floating around here somewhere. Got to get parts for them too now and then.

If your looking to sell a car, the Swap Meet section is there for that purpose.
