I have a 28 AR sport coupe and I need to replace the steering wheel. It has a black wheel but im curious which one is correct red or black? it was built in March 1928, any opinions?

Where the steering column meets the steering gear-box, is there a big clamp with a hex-head bolt ?

If so, then your car has been "upgraded" to the later "2-tooth" Gemmer Steering gear.

An original '28 should have the "7-tooth" steering gear ( column and gear box are one unit) and a red steering wheel.

If you need to buy a new red wheel, I've purchased 3 from Bert's and they are very nice.

Before that I bought one from Mac's, but it appeared to be red oxide primer paint on a black wheel, so I sent it back. I didn't scratch it to be sure, but it sure didn't look like the red wheels from Bert's.

There's good and bad parts from each of the dealers, and the suppliers change from time to time for the dealers, so your milage may vary.
