The problem with that is it does not take into account a possible bent wheel.
I believe factory spec allowed up to 1/8 inch runout.

If you measure the same place on each tire, but move the car to the new location, it takes that out of the equation.

Find the most severely bent point on each wheel and make sure that is pointing either straight up or down and the toe plate method will work fine to give an average toe in measurement
