Default Engine Timimg

I've had my picup for 5 years - lately, I'm having an issue. I drive it daily -- and after a few months, it seems to lose it pep. I'll check my timing and every time it's a few degrees retarded. Then it runs just perfect! Until a few months, I'll retime it again. YES, I tighten/recheck the cam screw. Tho, this does give me a chance to clean my plus too.

What's my problem, you think?
Thk

OK, I'm using FSI Ignition, the one where I manually adjust my spark. It's not
the totally automatic distributor, (which has been rebuilt). It happens so slowly that it's awhile before I re-time.
Tks

OK, I went back over it and found the screw that locks the distributor to the head (after you loosen the jam nut) did accept some tighten.
Tks. after I explained -- I remembered
