VanNormann 777 Boring Machine Tools from INDIA
I just noticed that there are a bunch of VanNorman 777 boring bar kits for sale on Ebay from India.
Also from China knock-offs. https://www.made-in-china.com/cs/hot...BoCcvUQAvD_BwE Anyone know how this could be? I though VanNorman's were USA made. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...chine&_sacat=0 |

I believe that the listing shows tools that are made to use with the VN boring machine but they are not VN made or branded.

I believe that tooling would also fit a Repco 100 portable boring bar that was made here in Australia. I'm not sure if it was made under license to Van Norman but the parts interchange.

That boring bar is far from a Van Norman knock off there's no cats paws to adjust the bar to the cylinder center. The clamping tool to hold the machine to the deck of the block looks pretty crude. The micrometer to set the cutter so you actually know what's being removed on each pass is missing from what I see.

MUCH huh? Lol I have a good friend whose been at Kenosha ( that's headquarters, in case your wondering) for over 35 years. Please provide a list of what exactly is made overseas, and specifically where. I am sure he would be greatly enlightened, if not at least entertained. Lol

Snappy sells the Blue Point line that is mostly foreign made. Snap On still makes all their trademark wrenches and socket sets here in the US. They rebrand some US made equipment with their name. They do sell plenty of foreign made stuff but they seem to look for quality manufacturing where they can find it.
I've used older US and UK made machine equipment that was well maintained and later foreign made equipment. The stuff made in Japan and South Korea isn't too bad. Taiwan made stuff is hit or miss but I think they try to make it as good a quality as the customer wants it to be. Red China and India are sort of the same way but they just don't seem to compare in the pride of manufacture level of the competition. Eastern European stuff was coming up in the world but there is turmoil going on these days. |
