Re: Official Ford Barn Deuce 1932 FORD Picture Thread
Fellow club member, Bob Neal, started his flathead powered deuce 5W yesterday for the first time. Attached are shots of our club putting the body on the chassis. Dang thing was built in about a 10X14~ metal storage shed. Runs a bit rough he says but it sure sounded SWEET to me over the telephone! Attaboy Bob! Al

Re: Official Ford Barn Deuce 1932 FORD Picture Thread
Here are a couple photos of my Dad's (Jerome Stohler) '32 Roadster back in 1956. It was painted red and had either a '49 or '50 Ford dash and was powered by an 8BA Merc Flathead
While going for a walk one day in San Bernardino, CA, he found the roadster sitting in a backyard. The story he was told was that it had been run at the drags in San Diego. He bought the roadster, dragged it home and got it running but it wasn‘t running real good. He took it to John Bradley (Mr Flathead) and when he was done it ran good enough to blow the Zephyr gears out of the trans. It had smooth hood sides on it when he bought it. He took the smooth hood sides down to Scotty’s Muffler. Scotty ran a little hot rod wrecking yard at the muffler shop and the shop foreman traded a pair of stock hood sides for the smooth sides. You can see in the photo that the paint on the hood does not match the car. For some reason the deck lid hinges were missing and he could not find any originals (no reproductions back then) so he used a pair of Chevy hinges to mount the deck lid, you can also see them in the photo. He had to install the cycle fenders because of a ticket. He drove the ’32 roadster around and around the block of my Mother’s house to get her attention. She thought the roadster was cool and they started dating and were married a couple years later. I might not have existed had it not been for that '32 Roadster, maybe that is why I love them so much. He drove the roadster for a year and was working nights at the time, he said he got tired of freezing his ass off so he sold it for $225.00. About ten years ago he bought another original 1932 Highboy Roadster that is painted red with an 8BA Flathead because it reminded him of his old one, except this one wasn’t $225.00. I'm building '32 Roadster for myself. It's on an original chassis, the firewall and grille shell and gas tank are also originals, the body is a Brookville. The engine is a 59A Flathead with an original Edelbrock Slingshot Intake, original Winfield SU1A cam and new Edelbrock heads. The ‘39 trans has 26 tooth Zephyr gears. The rearend is a late '32 Ford with 3.54 gears, the right and left axle housings have been swapped to lower the rear of the car, I still need to reverse the eyes on the rear spring to get the rear down a little lower. The “V8” radiator support rods were my own creation just to be a little different. The car will be black with 1935 Ford Tacoma Cream painted Kelsey wire wheels, 5.00X16 front cycle tires and 7.00X16s on the rear. The gauges in the dash are temporaries I borrowed from another project until I can find some original smooth bezel Stewart Warner gauges. The push button starter switch is in the V8 emblem. I have a couple other '32 projects stashed away. A pretty decent 5-window body and a 4-inch chopped 3-window that was an old drag car. Jerry Last edited by Flathead Fever; 05-24-2010 at 01:43 AM. |
