Try painter's tape (won't damage paint) covered with duct tape (more protection), work on a towel. Feed mesh through top and resign yourself to bending it going in and straightening it after install. There was minor bloodletting when I did mine, maybe gloves? |

Re: 2 easy 1935 questions
On the air cleaner i always cut the three supports and install the element and then weld them back when finished. Makes a hour long job a ten minute job.
Also on the oil filler scoop the reproduced decals are black with white letters the originals were blue with white letters. I have a few made that way if you need one |

Re: 2 easy 1935 questions
"NEW 5 point wire screen (chicken fence) and copper mesh" I believe the screen is like screen door metal screen. The heavy duty fence material sounds like one of the Carb air cleaner elements. Suggest installing the screen before painting and then paint. The screen can also be lightly painted. I get the screen from Roy Nacewicz he has the material cut to height rolled and then stapled together. You can rotate the staples to the rear so they are not seen.

This is the one that came on a '35 I just got, yikes! Cleaned it with carb cleaner which took off some paint, but even that stuff wouldn't penetrate the screen! So I'll be painting and replacing a screen soon, this is good to know information.

the tack welds will be under the cap anyway. I show pictures when done. |
