Default Shoebox headliner replacement

At some point I will replace the headliner in my '51 due to a past mousie nest and said critters gnawing on the body wiring harness that goes to back of car. In reading the Green Service Manual it discusses the removal of the back window but it sounds like the windshield does not need to come out. Would appreciate hearing from someone who has done or had done a shoebox headliner. Big Thanks!

replaced the headliner in 49 tudor, took my time and didn't take out the front or back window. Came out very nice. I have since sold the car so can't post pictures. Just take you when cutting around the rear window.

I did my Fordor with a Macs/Cartouche headliner. I used the Green Repair as my guide. The Cartouche kit I bought for my Tudor has additional directions and I’ll send you a copy if you want. I did take the back window out, I thought it would be easier to make it fit and look better. The one thing I would do different is iron the headliner first. You’ll want at least one helper. The window isn’t hard to remove and replace. I insulated the roof with foil backed interior stuff........Mark

Mark, really appreciate your comments. Would really like a copy of the Cartouche instructions, will help in deciding if I attempt or line up an upholstery guy. Did you also do the windlace around the doors?......... Scott

Amazing to me how folks can install headliners. Just looks like so much work to do it correctly! I admire those who have the patience and expertise for that.

Scott, I’ll get a copy of those instructions to you. I didn’t replace the windlace and I’ve regretted ever since. It was my first try at a headliner ….. maybe I got lucky. My luck ran out when a few years ago, mice got behind it and ruined one side of it. I’ll post some pics tomorrow ……..Mark

I didn't like any of the fabrics/colors sold from the usual retailors. My sis-in-law is an average home seamstress. We took the old headliner out and she made a new one out of the rags.
It's not that difficult to hang the new one. And yes, by all means get new welting.

Mark,
Would you be willing to post or send a copy of those instructions to me as well? I am in the same boat with deciding if I should tackle installing a Cartouche interior myself or have someone do it for me.

Thanks
