Victoria Australia rumble seat rules
Oz calls a rumble seat a dicky seat but nonetheless...
Was at our biggest swap meet Bendigo on the weekend and there was a very nice 1935 English ford coupe there for sale. It had a rumble seat (fited with seat belts) and he said that Victoria has banned anyone riding in any rumble seat . I know Victria has come draconian dumb laws regarding old cars. Has anyone else heard of this new law or is it a furphy? |

This neatly explains the Australian use of "Furphy" http://www.furphys.com.au/who-we-are/furphy-water-cart PS Cast into the end of each of these carts was the St Jerome verse: Good Better Best Never let it rest Till your good is better and your better is best

" ... not all their news was reliable and so it was that the word Furphy rapidly became a synonym for suspect information or rumour"
Fake news. |

Attachment 339162The most draconic restrictions and speed limits were imposed by the 1865 act (the "Red Flag Act"), which required all road locomotives, which included automobiles, to travel at a maximum of 4 mph (6.4 km/h) in the country and 2 mph (3.2 km/h) in the city, as well as requiring a man carrying a red flag to walk in front
