What's a '30 town sedan weigh?
I want to know what my '30 Town Sedan (Briggs) 155D weighs?
My title states 4400 pounds. I think that's a bit high. Ya see, NM state gov't charges registration fees based on weight. They overstated the weight on another of my vehicles, and it costs more money to fix the title than to pay the extra registration fee. I smell a skunk. Could they be overstating car weights to get more revenue??? Oh no; how dare I mistrust my local government! ~ Chuck

Sorry, this is not trying to be a political post, so let's keep it off that frequency...

Off hand I'd say it's right in the area of 2600 pounds. You can get a weight slip at many truck stops or scrap metal yards. They may charge you $5 or give it to you being it's such a cool car.

MAFCA reprinted a letter from the Ford Motor Company in 1931 showing 2476 pounds. See http://mafca.com/data_weights.html

Re: What's a '30 town sedan weigh?
A Couple of Possible Model A Reflections:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- If a Model A owner cleans out a local bank vault at gunpoint, he is really robbing cash savings from his citizen neighbors ...... so naturally, according to law, he/she goes to jail. On the other hand, elected, citizen officials have a blessed, most Holy, righteous, and very delicate instrument that they can employ in lieu of a gun to legally steal similar cash savings from citizens .... it is called a pen ..... just a righteous way do the same thing ....... but, charges are never filed ......... something is wrong Tonto ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, after obtaining my 1930 Town Sedan, in researching a few comments on past Model A Forums & literature, one can find the often mentioned Cannon Law Model A Religious Statement: "A great big heavy, Model A 4-dr or a huge Town Sedan will definitely need a high compression head and a high lift cam if a 3:27 pinion/ring gear is installed ........ however, a very light Coupe with a 3:27 pinion/ring gear can get by with an all original stock engine." The 4-Dr/Town Sedan weight is actually in the 2,467/2,476 pound range, and the Coupe is in the 2,257 pound range, or really about roughly a 215 pound difference with the same amount of fuel in each tank. In this noted Model A Forum Religious Heresy, please "Be Aware": "If a Model A Coupe driver brings his 215 pound wife to the ice cream shop, his Coupe will be as heavy as a Town sedan ..... and accordingly, if he has a Coupe, he will definitely need a high compression head and a high lift cam to transport his wife to the ice cream shop because of the extra weight." |

Re: What's a '30 town sedan weigh?
I just had my first ride in a T and those things really do need a High Compression head. (How did HF manage to sell 15 million?) I never realized just how ornery they were. Especially to push without it going into gear. It felt like 2700 lbs.

Re: What's a '30 town sedan weigh?
Mixed reactions about Model T's years ago:
In about 1925, while managing a car garage from 1920 until 1932, my Dad told me he bought a Model T Ford. Like with many major highways during this era, straight highways were provided immediately adjacent to straight railroad tracks. On his first Model T trip, he told me his Model T stalled. He got out of his car, left his Model T on the side of the road, and came home on a train. He next bought a Chrysler, and swore he would never buy another Ford. He nodded his head when I bought my Model A Ford for $25.00 in 1958 ...... he had a 1955 Chrysler with absolutely no problems; but he did very kindly offer very professional advice how to constantly repair a worn out Model A. Re: What's a '30 town sedan weigh?
Dang, I'm starting to see the relationship betwixt the Golden Twinkie and the Model A!
I have truly been enlightened on this Forum, as usual. Who knows, maybe when My State weighed their first Model A Town Sedan, it was FULL OF TWINKIES... more carbs for the Zenith!

Is that 4400# with or without that new trunk with the stash of Coronado's gold in it?
