Default What is needed

To convert babitt to inserts?
I plan on doing my own eng rebuild this summer. (Retired auto tech).
Have valve grinding machine can do almost all of the work. What I cant do I have a local machine shop complete.

As far as I know all you need to do is have the block/caps line bored to accept the new bearings. I believe you also need to do something to install a different rear main seal. But I think that is it.

As 1930artdeco says, you will need to have the block line bored to accept the inserts and provide a place to put the thrust crescent for end thrust. I definitely WOULD NOT make any alterations to the rear oil slinger arrangement. I have an engine with the modern style oil seal and it leaks a bucket full. I only did it because the slinger was damaged but never again. A similar engine with the original arrangement only leaves a few drops after a long run. It has an enlarged return tube from the bearing cap.
Fitting an oil filter is a VERY good idea too with inserts.

I think that the shop that you intend to use, also has to have the right size boring bar for a Model A/B block. At least the shop that I went to, did not have the correct size bar. They had several bars to bore different engine blocks, but not Model A, or else I'd have inserts instead of poured Babbitt in my current B short block..
