installing front fenders on a 48
Finally ready to install my front clip which I plan to assemble on the car. The first piece to go on is the front fender apron support, 51A-16138, which sits on a rubber pad, 59A16186-A. This pad is not listed in my catalog and is easy to make once I know the dimensions. Hoping someone can tell me how thick it is as it's height will effect the fenders lining up with the cowl.

Re: installing front fenders on a 48
I would start with 1/8 in. thick and make changes as needed.

Yes, PN 16186, pad-front, fender apron support, is a rubber pad about 1/8" thick. The "Red Book" does not show any dimensions but I would also add that the pad should be fabric re-inforced. If you use plain 1/8" rubber it will probably fail at some point.

Use a 1/8 thick piece of aluminum or polyethylene plastic - something that won't absorb water.

I removed my 48 Super Deluxe's front clip recently. The rubber / fabric reinforced pad is a 1/4" thick and measures 4 1/4" x 1 1/4", with 3/8" hole in center. Have not seen a replacement listed by any vendors.

Phil, McMaster-Carr sells re-inforced 1/4" rubber, but the smallest size is 12"x12" at $30. If you had a few guy's that also needed it it would be cost effective. I would double up frame welting.

Thanks for the tip. Although I may try doubling up on 41-48 gas tank to frame pads.

Napa sells big truck mud flaps(reinforced rubber) for about $15.00.
I looked on the 47 I’m working on but the pad is missing . |

Thanks Philgoodtoo. Just what I was looking for. I am going to use gas tank straps which are 1/8th and will use 2.
