moving stock oil filter?

A friend of mine was looking at my flathead motor on the engine stand and remarked that while the motor was quite neat looking the oil filter seemed rather unsightly and "in the way". He suggested I move it for appearance sake to another location. It's the factory oil system setup. Can I install a remote filter or does the filter need to be elevated for drain back purposes.
