Re: backfiring
check for air leaks:
loose intake/exhaust at block, bad gasket at intake/exhaust, accelerator shaft loose(air leak), carb seal at intake leak. Bob |

Re: backfiring
Backfiring is a term very often misused. Do you mean the car is igniting fuel in the exhaust or is it firing out through the carburettor? They are completely different but many people call both of them a "backfire".

Re: backfiring
Your problem is consistent with you engine running to lean. As Brentwood Bob mentions you need to look for any air leaks in your fuel system. Air leaks will result in your air/fuel mixture becoming to lean (to much air and to little gas) resulting in backfires. If you can't find any air leaks try running with your gas adjusting valve opened by another quarter turn and see if that solves your problem. If opening the GAV solves your problem I suggest you install a set of flow tested jets in your carb.
