Default 40/41 Truck Question - Front fender bracket difference?

I'm building a 41 pickup. I've installed a 40 crossmember to get it lower.
I have the stock 41 front fender bracket, but I believe it is taller than the
40 bracket, and I need to know by how much. I can easily modify it, just
need to know how.

Can someone measure a stock 40 bracket for me? I need to know the
vertical distance between the bottom of the support, and the centerline
of the upper mounting holes.

Did your truck have a 6 cyl motor? That support is different between a 6 and a V8. I NEED ONE FROM A 6 CYL TRUCK!!!!

I have a 41 chassis that had a 6 cylinder front crossmember but was a V8 truck. It had the V8 fender brace with a longer bolt and a spacer to make up the difference. (Looking at the picture that might be the V8 support, take the spacer off the bottom and it should be the right size)

I also need a set of 41 pickup 6 cylinder radiator support brackets that rivit to the front crossmember

I have some extra V8 fender braces if you need one, or if you would sell me the 6 cyl brace you have

This came from a 41, V/8, deep crossmember.

So the spacer is the only difference?

Can you measure one of your 40 brackets?

Thanks,
Rich

The V8 yoke is about 13" from the bottom to the center of the bolt holes at the top. The one you posted a picture of looks like a V8 with about a 2" spacer to work with the 6 cyl crossmember.

The v8 looks V shaped and the 6 cyl brace is more like a U shape.

From what 8 was told all the 41 pickups from mid year to the end of production got a 6 cyl crossmember regaurdless of what motor was used.

You are correct about all the pickups from mid '41 on getting the same front fender yoke and crossmember. My pickup began as a 4 cylinder and it has the same yoke and crossmember as all the other late 41's I've seen.

Did the 4 cyl truck use the fender support like the V8 or one like the 6 cyl?

I have been searching for the 6 cyl support yoke, radiator brackets and the correct 6 cyl battery tray.

I did get the 6 cyl inner fenders which have a extra brace for the tie rod between the two fenders.

My truck has the 6 cylinder yoke and does not have the 6 cylinder radiator brackets. The gas tank pickup tube also comes out of the right side of the gas tank rather than the left side.

Do you know the reason for the gas fill neck? Was it a export truck or was it for the location of the fuel pump on the 4 and 6 cylinder trucks?

My fill neck is on the left side and the gas line pickup tube on the right side. It's the original tank. The right side pickup tube would have been for the right side fuel pump. When I got the pickup I noticed that the frame # did not match the ownership certificate. It was always a California truck. In the early days(prior 1955) they registered vehicles by the motor #. On the original certificate the ID # started with an N and then five numbers. Since Ford used the 9N motors I felt the original # was the # stamped on the motor. I've since had the ID # corrected to the frame #. Long ago the pickup was converted to a later motor, trans and rear end by a prior owner. The body, bed, fenders, etc. are super straight and absolutely no rust with a 45+ year old lacquer paint job. I don't think this pickup ever had hard use. I suspect it made trips to town for sacks of grain ,bales of hay, or groceries in the early days.

Here are some pictures of a 40 brace, looks like the measurement you are wanting is 13 3/16".

Nice pics, Bill.

Might be worth mentioning that Bill's quoted dimension is to the very top of the side pads. The dimension to the center of the hole would be somewhat less.

Just out of interest, what is the height of the cotton reel bobbin spacer?

Mart.

Mart, the fifth picture show where the center of the brace holes are, first picture is to the top of the brace. If you are referring to the metal spacer it is .994, or one inch.

Picture of the spacer. The other picture is of the 6 cyl radiator supports which also have the holes for the V8 radiator. That chassis is out of a late 41 that was a factory V8 truck but had the 6 cyl crossmember and radiator supports.

I need a set of those support brackets
