Default Roadster door hinges

Anyone tried to use the after market 1930 roadster door hinges sold by Snyder's or Bratton's?

Did they work, worth trying?

What's the issue with the old hinges?
There's ways to fix them up.

Pins fit very loose. Lots of play. Thought about drilling out and putting in an over size pin, but there's not much material.

What else can you do to fix?

I can't answer for the roadster but the Tudor hinges from them are top notch

Easy fix. Remove pins. Use a hacksaw to enlarge the slot at the end of the rolled area that surrounds the pin. Then peen the roll closed to reduce the pin hole diameter. Drive a new pin in place and the rolled area will expand and fit tight on the new pin. No need for new hinges.

Vendors I've looked at don't list oversize pins for the open cars. Do you know anyone that does?

4Port, might try this before buying hinges, thanks.

Looked at above web site, they seem VERY expensive. Didn't see where they listed open cars as a hinge they had.

The advise to disassemble and tighten the knuckle is good, though you might want to consider a weld tack to hold it. Remember the open car hinge pins do not have knurling and rely on the spring action of the knuckle to hold them in place.

To my knowledge there are two manufactures of open car hinges, Albrecht Towing and us (Wescott's). There are some positives and negatives about both.

Albrecht roadster hinges are (I think) the ones Snyders sells. They are unplated. The up side is the cost is low and the knuckle detail very fine. The down side is they use a very soft metal so it is harder to keep the knuckle closed.

Our hinges are plated with a yellow wash and cost somewhat more. We use a harder metal and have some stamping distortion in the knuckle detail that needs finishing by the installer. The pins do fit tight, some people do like to ream out for a easier motion on the inside knuckles (keep the outside ones tight to hold the pin).

Albrecht only makes theirs for the 1928-29 roadster door and the late 1930-31 roadster. (3 mount hole on the lower hinge).

We do both of those and the early 1930 (2 mount hole), the rear doors for the 4-door phaetons, and the 1926-27 roadster and touring.

"Our hinges are plated with a yellow wash "

Do you mean a Cad (cadmium) plate?

I machined some oversize pins down for my '28 Roadster Pick up. It got rid of the Door Rattles.
