Default Driving AA vs A

Contemplating an AA or A truck purchase. I have not driven either and would ask those of you who have experience with both share how each manages the hurried roads of today. No highways and assuming both are mechanically sound. Thank you.

No highways, either or would be fine. Speed-wise, the stock A would be faster then the stock AA.

the AA is a lot tougher driving around cause of the gear ratio.. even on back roads

The AA trucks may have a 5:14 (high speed) gear or a 6:6 (low speed) gear. The high speed gear is good for 45-50 MPH.

That's good for no-load flat ground. Add a load and take on mountains, and all bets are off. (my experience in my AA 280A 50 years ago)

AA do not need to go fast.. They are awesome as is... if I had the room for one it would be the only other A I'd want. Then again a 48' powerwagon 4WD is tempting..

Thanks for all the responses thus far. How about handling? The AA is obviously bigger and heavier. I guess I just need to go and drive each one. My concern is the roads. Backroads today are nothing like the past. Short of the neighborhood roads, most of the roads I would travel on are heavily used and though not highways, people are moving and not slow. There is an AA not far from me for sale but I may just keep looking for an A. If I was on a farm or lived in a more rural area, the AA would probably suit just fine.

Definetly more work in mushing the AA around. Not as fast but more thumbs up.
After a day of driving the AA the coupe feels like a toy.

The AA with a flatbed is a cool truck, but much heavier and slower.
The good thing is when some idiot rear ends you the AA will likely wipe out his car instead of your's.

Over the years the Hangtown A's had an AA bus (now on display at the MAFFI museum in Hickory Corners, MI). The speed for that was about 35 or less.

I've had my 29 AA for several years now. There hasn't been a year that I haven't put at least 1500 miles on it.
I don't particularly like driving rural roads with it. As a general rule I prefer driving in town. The reason being it is better to drive four lane roads because it is easier for people to pass you. I have full turn signals set up on mine so when I am on rural two lane roads I run with my emergency flashers on and that really helps.

Nothing fast about these trucks. But really its not how fast you get to where you are going but more how you get there.
People often ask me how many miles per gallon I get with my truck. I always reply that I don't know but I do get a lot of smiles per mile.

Maybe it's just me but these trucks are a hoot to own and drive.

Still looking for an AA and have driven a couple of them. How much different is the A pick-up? On a car chassis? More speed and better on a wider variety of road/traffic conditions? I have not found one to drive yet.
