Default 1939 Deluxe Coupe emergency brake

Hi Guys

The cable that goes from the wishbone (for lack of right name) to the handle inside the car is starting to separate under the car (a few strands showing).

Can you check my search below? is this the right cable that I need to buy? I don't see where the pin that holds it to the wishbone is from pic

Thanks Andy

This one appears to go through a hole at the handle bracket and at the crossmember and secured by a clip similar to the clip on a brake hose. That is how my '40 worked.

My cable is secured at crossmember with this:

The hole has a pin that has a pin with a cotter pin to hold it in place.

The cable that you have pictured from macs looks as though it is the right one. Each end of the cable should have a clevis threaded onto each end of the cable. After you install the cable on your 39, each clevis can be adjusted to help you achieve the correct length. The bracket that you have picture here secures the cable to the frame cross member . The cable from the rear backing plates loops thru the bracket you have pictured and is secured to the clevis with a clevis pin and cotter pin and the front of the cable also secures to the hand brake lever with a clevis with a clevis pin and cotter pin. Good looking 39 coupe!

Thanks Tom for the compliment and the excellent discription/details

I'm think or should I say hoping I can use the old cable to help fish the new one through to inside car.

Your car is a beaut!

A follow up question. While I'm still awaiting macs to ship......

What is best method for removing old one and installing new one?

- Work from inside back or under side in?
- Can one use the old cable to fish new one through?

Thanks Andy

Ok....dumb question time.. (this is embarrassing) since you guys are talking about E-brake cables....

I can't seem to find the right path for it! Around the front of the steering box makes it too short, behind the steering box makes it too long. It appears to be a factory cable... sharp bends impossible!

(Car needs a good cleaning, it's pretty dusty)

Not a dumb question at all. The 39 was routed differently than the 40. Here's a couple of photos that I hope will help you.
Look carefully at the interior view and you will note where the cable comes through the floor.
This is the way the factory did it in '39.

Andy, That appears to be a cable that will fit and function within your car. 01C is the later - service replacement part number prefix.

Mike, although this wasn't my question, it's typical of the way you and J Seery come to our rescue with pictures, diagrams, and narrative nearly every day here on the Barn.

You guys are the best!!....and so are many others!!!

Dick.
