Selling parts--- Ebay
Has anyone one found any good online sources besides here and Ebay? anyone use craigslist with any luck? I strictly use Ebay or sell stuff over the phone, but was wondering if anyone has had luck with craigslist. I hate to list 200 items on there with no luck and waste time.

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
List things for free here on Fordbarn or list them for free on HAMB. I don't deal with the auction site these days. They changed their program again making it necessary to search everything by year instead of by decades, really slowing down the searches...especially with all of the misidentified parts. There seller rules invite extortion by the buyer these days, also.

Ebay and FORDBARN swap section, you guys are the best, most honest folks to deal with.

Agree - please don't stop listing! You seem to have a ton of stuff, would it be worth putting together your own website? There are database based templates out there you can purchase that make it so you can upload parts/photos/descriptions/prices all at once.

The items you sell would be a bit difficult for someone to find on Craigslist. I say don't bother. The problems with eBay are of course it is geared toward the buyer. That and the huge fees at every turn. Still, from my experience, the best venue for the unique items we sell. I have not had much luck on the Barn. I have listed numerous items on the Barn thinking it might be nice to give some of these guys a break. For the most part, I'd received such low ball offers, well, listed the same items on eBay and received much more $$$. Most guys on the Barn search eBay as well. The guys that say they don't because eBay is to high...that tells ya something.

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
List something on Craigslist and within an hour, it is buried hundreds of items deep due to all of the postings that come after your's. Add to that all of the issues discussed above; a waste of time for the most part.
It's pretty much worth what you pay for it, nothing. |

If you post on Craigs list be sure not to give home address, I always meet at a sopping center where there are people around and cash only.

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
Thanks for all the replies. I do the Early Ford Parts thing for a living now after being laid off my job years ago. Ebay is great but I spend $1500.00 a month in fees. Never had any luck selling on Fordbarn. I had a website, but for the $30 a month upkeep I was spending, I only sold maybe $450 a month. I guess I will stick with the Ebay thing and pray the hobby doesn't take a nose dive! Just wish their fees werent so crazy... Also not to advertise myself, but I recieved 3 pm's regarding past ebay buyers of mine that quit because they won't use PayPal. As a FYI I accept CC's and MO's so to avoid PayPal

I think ill try it but I usually aim to sell 250 items a week so all the tire kickers might really tick me off

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
i have checked Craig's list many times with no results. Seems they are not geared for antique parts or at least I have been unable to find many. I did luck up and got a super nice 40 spoke Kelsey Hayes for $40.00.

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
Between EBAY & PayPal they take nearly 14% on car parts. You can try here or HAMB and the www.earlyfordv8.org ,classifieds.Sometimes it takes all three sites to move an item.

Re: Selling parts--- Ebay
From personal experience I'll offer this-I'd say '48 spindles bring $150 on eBay. I answered a FB wanted ad and asked $90 with the buyer to pay shipping. That's the equivalent of a a 40% discount and the buyer had me jumping through so many hoops I just told him to forget it. Can I have the king pins? Can you ship Greyhound? No it's 25 miles to downtown Chicago for the closest GH station and I'd pay $10 to park there! Uh, how about this, how about that ??? Still have them, but if I sold on eBay for $150 I'd still net $127.50, and not get a headache.
