hello,i've got to pick up and move a coupe 17 miles. I .m thinking about a tow dolley. is this ok? I wll be driving only 25mph and not in traffic. also the specs of model t's just give a weight range but not individul breakdown by type. does anyone know weight of coupe?the specs never give the front-to-back length of the coupe just give overall length of a touring which would be nice to know . thank you as always for your help

Best use a trailer.Model T's don't tow well.

It is not advised to pull a T because of drag in the multiple disk clutch. It has been suggest if needed to tow, to remove the spark plugs. I agree with the above. A trailer would be better.

Because of the steering you can't tow it backwards on a tow dolly and because splash lubrication and unit construction 25 might be too fast. You would need to tow it slow, with spark plugs removed, oil in the crankcase and in gear or you could burn out the bearings from lack of lubrication (rods, mains, and transmission). The flywheel need to spin to provide lubrication to the whole engine including the clutch. Your best bet is a trailer or flat bed tow truck. You should only tie down the axles leave the body to bounce and remove anything that could fly out including the hood.

Don't drag it into the trailer by the front axel. The front axel (wishbone) was not designed to be pulled forward. It is easy to pop the ball out of the socket.

The same goes when tying it down - if you tie the rear end down and then pull on the front wheels / axel you can pull the ball out when trying to snitch it down.

thanks to all, I learned a lot. I think i'll look into getting a u-haul car trailer. If I can.t winch the car on from the front axle, how should I winch the car onto a trailer?

Wrap tow strap around frame cross member. From all the "Don'ts" above it would be easier to get the car running and drive it. ;0/

Sounds like the car is a roller and if you can push the car around I would use the front axle. You would not be putting tht much strain on the wishbone pulling it on a U-hall trailer as low as they are.

Always good stuff on here. I will trailer my 23 touring occasionally and have always secured it by a back chain through the frame and pulled the front tight with a hook on the axle or spring. I'll use a strap through the frame next time.

I've been towing both of my T's for over 25 years with straps over the front axles. Never pulled the ball out and I wrench them pretty tight. Maybe if the ball is worn this would happen. I have a '22 roadster and '27 touring.

I should add that I always place the straps so that they are pulling downward (not straight out).

Pulling down and having a good ball makes a big difference.
I know of at least three people that made the mistake of pulling on the axle and having a problem.
All of them were "well worm" Ts and one actually pulled the socket off the rusted pan.
