Question Interior Panel Nails, What Size?

I have seen several posts about proper procedures for installing the wire brads or nails, but haven't been able to find a specification for size of the nail.
What size works best?
Also, I'm assuming that stainless steel might be best, to avoid rust stains later on.

I don't remember what size I used but if you are using the same wood, it helps to use a bit longer nail than original, just in case you happen to hit an old hole, it will still hold. I used brass nails, that's what was originally in my car.

Brass sounds like a good choice; hadn.t thought of that. Thanks!
