stall on acceleration
runs fine except when I use full acceleration stalls. acceleration at a slow rate does fine. I think it is a timing issue.the timing is a little late. before I start messing with the timing. I would like some input. I looked on the forum an got only when braking motor stalls. Thanks Miff

Re: stall on acceleration
So under WOT does the engine actually stall/quit, or, hesitate ?
This sounds like a carburetor issue. What carburetor does this monster have ? It sounds like a fuel transition issue such as a plugged comp circuit, fuel height, etc. How late is the timing ? Are you advancing the timing once the engine is running ? But, setting the points and then the timing [ in that order] doesn't take long. |

Re: stall on acceleration
Car is on electric fuel pump set one pound presser. The carb was rebuilt and run on a different motor . Timing is full advanced. The stalling happens at when you push the gas peddle all the way down

Re: stall on acceleration
Hi miff,
Maybe also look at it this way: You are going on your first date with a beautiful young lady to an expensive function. Your suit fits perfectly, you want to impress the young lady, and not miss one dance. After dressing, you notice you have loose bowels and a headache ......... do you take Aspirin only for the headache; or Imodium only, for the loose bowels; or both and don't miss one dance. With a Model A, it would be advised to adjust points, then adjust timing, then adjust carburetor, and when you step on the gas, (no pun intended), your engine should be tuned up. Could be a fuel pump problem also????? Hope this helps. Last edited by H. L. Chauvin; 02-28-2016 at 12:34 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: stall on acceleration
I would hazard a guess that we are not being told the whole story. An electric fuel pump ? When a question is asked without all the info, we assume a car almost as Henry built it. An electric fuel pump kinda tells me there is a downdraft carburetor.

Re: stall on acceleration
A stock Zenith doesn't need a fuel pump, so I'd remove that for starters. Then check the gas flow at the carb. You should have a good stream from just gravity feed.

Re: stall on acceleration
Hmm, I don't think we can analyze the problem without a photo of the speedster.

Re: stall on acceleration
The reason for the fuel pump gas tank is behind seat. Advanced timing increased fuel pressure half pound , looks like that helped . Will take it on trial run tomorrow. Honey due list.

Re: stall on acceleration
Is the distributor stock original with the lower plate wire??
You need to determine if your losing spark or fuel then you'll know which direction to head... Use a spark tester / and hook up a fuel pressure gauge since your running a pump. To diagnose |

Re: stall on acceleration
I have a presser gauge on the full line header. The distributor has the modern setup. I have great spark. I think it was a little of both , timing and duke pressure . Thanks for all your input.

Re: stall on acceleration
Hi Miff,
Never forget that Model A's engine problems occur most often with: "Fuel" and" "Electrical" Problems. Just like that explained in Reply #4: Don't ever concentrate on just one (1) ..... it took Imodium + Aspirin to get that guy up and dancing. Had he tried to cure just one, and taken just the Aspirin, he could have been up and "running" ......... but, with the "runs" that is .... but not "up and dancing" all night long with the young lady. Hope this helps as a reminder when resolving your next engine problem. Last edited by H. L. Chauvin; 02-29-2016 at 04:40 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: stall on acceleration
Maybe try adjusting the GAV on the carb and see if that makes any difference
