Default Speedometer Cable Connection

I recently replaced the speedometer cable on my 46 and have a question regarding the cable insertion into the speedometer; does the cable need to go all the way in or partial? I can only get the screw cap at the end of the cable to turn maybe 2 turns on the speedometer connection.

it needs to be to be tight don't force it the housing can't flop around at the speedo head. check the cable itself it may be made wrong, or you need to trim it a little.

Thanks Brendon. I may trim a little off the end so that I can at least get a few more turns out of the housing nut.

The fastner need's to be tightened down so it rests on the shoulder. Sounds like your cable is to long! jmho Frank

That's what I'm thinking too Frank. Hopefully I won't get lamb-basted for asking this but what is the best tool to use for trimming cable; will wire snips work ok?

Wire cutters will cut the cable but it will distort the square drive end. The speedometer shops use an abrasive wheel to cut the cable to length. You might try a Dremel tool with the abrasive cut off wheels. The main goal is to retain the square drive end so it will slip into the Speedometer or Turtle securely.

No that will ruin it , try a Dremmel with a cut off wheel.
