Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
At our spring tuneup clinic 8 days ago Elizabeth from Classtique Upholstery also demonstrated how to install the headliner in a 29 Tudor. Start by marking the centers of the bows and center of the seams on the headliner. Then spray some 3M 77 adhesive on the front edge of the bows that get the seams attached. Stick the fabric to the glue so the seam is 1/4" below the bottom of the bow. When it's straight and correct go back and staple it in place, then move forward to the next bow.
This car owner has installed a center dome light, so that will make the job a little harder, but just cover over it, then when the whole headliner is in place you can go back and cut a hole for the domelight. The lip of the domelight will hold the cut hole in place. |

She did the same thing at the MAFCA National Meet in Marquette. Very informative.

What are the, what looks like snaps, silver & brownish projections on the sides of the headliner bows for?

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
It's surprising what a ROOKIE can do, IF someone shows you the "order of progresson" in hanging a headliner!
EVEN I, hung an Alexander Brand, pre-made, headliner in my '55 Plymouth, 2 door hardtop! I DIDN'T even have to spray water on it to "shrink" out wrinkles, THERE WEREN'T ANY!! Bill W.

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
It took two of us two days in 1980 to install the headliner in my Tudor. We're both about 6'3", and it was tight in there!

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
I forgot to mention that Elizabeth made a track with a roller seat to help her slide back and forth for the job. She didn't have it with for the demonstration though, but did explain how she made it.

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
Great post, a member from my Model A club suspects my headliner is original... It has one minor stain from water... I have no plans to replace it but wondered how it might be done if I one day need to.

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
Poor Vermin's headliner is saggin' some. Apparently, whoever manufactured it, used IRON on tacking strips & they're coming loose. There's NO sign of stitching to attach them to the headliner, itself! ANY competant company knows they are supposed to be SEWN to the headliner!!
Would whoever made it, FESS UP? Has anyone else experienced this? I'd sure like to know who made it, so I culd BAD MOUTH THEM, BAD!!! My interior, rumble & roof were done in 2002, BUT looks like they were done last Tuesday, except for the dang+&%&(*^$#$% SAGGIN' HEADLINER!----Bill W.

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
I know this is an old thread, but can we see more details on how to finish the edge above the door? And what if any windlace is used? Also, is the area in the C pillar part of the top material or a separate piece? How would that be attached?

Re: Installing a 1929 Tudor Headliner
Quote:
If by calling the trim a C pillar, and you are referring to the trim panel that is between the rear window strip (trim moulding) and the quarter glass finish strip (trim moulding), then that piece is called the A-56930-* & A-56931-* Trim (Back) Assembly Side - RH (and LH respectively). This is made from the same grade of wool as the lower panels (Trim Quarter Assembly Sides) which is heavier than the Headliner fabric. This panel is attached with tiny headless brads into the structural wood. If this did not answer your question, then ask again. |
