Re: overdrives
I used a Gear Vendors unit (same as Volvo type). To me a better answer than one of those Mitchell units, as it is smaller, and electrically operated

Re: overdrives
Hi J
Gear Vendors themselves make these for a closed driveshaft application. A friend in Colfax, CA has one in a 32 roadster and it works well Mine is a bit different as I added the GV to the transmission and have an open drive setup. Can't seem to load a picture |

Most however, adapt the Laycock type to the driveshaft, due to the coupling issues Any good machine shop should be able to help you out, unless you are that capable. I am not Jim |

Re: overdrives
They are kind of rare, but if you can find a Pacer, Gremlin, or Hornet overdrive transmission from '75-'77, they used a ford full syncro 3 speed trans with a Laycock type J overdrive. I have one in my roadster and it works flawlessly. I removed the side shift linkage and installed a Jeep T150 top shifter for an original look in the car.

Re: overdrives
I believe Gear Vendors make an adapter for that.
