Re: 3 or 5 brg camshaft
If your block was made for the 5 bearing cam, it would have obvious 5 bearing webs. If for the 3 bearing it would just have the same 3 as the crank has. There were three different 5 bearing cams. The first had all 5 bearings finish-ground to the same size, the second had the 2 intermediate bearings also finish-ground but to a smaller diameter and the third they were rough-cut. This was to make it easier and quicker to install the cams in the 3 bearing block.

Re: 3 or 5 brg camshaft
The three bearing cam will also work in the five bearing block .

Hey Pete,
Looks like a 5 in a 5 that is/was a three ! Pretty tricky ! How durable is that ? It appears to be welded in at the base. Is that so, or just how do you keep it in place ? Last edited by hardtimes; 11-14-2018 at 10:52 PM. |

The cam was fabricated from an original A cam with welded up lobes and sleeved up journals. .488 lift. As far as I know it I still running in a vintage sprint car. |

You do nice work, indeed ! Aluminum block, hm must be a modern age banger block, eh ? Wish you were closer, I’d have you look at B aluminum block, to work your magic on ! It has a 5 bearing ‘28 cam in it also I’m not good at this and most likely get the hp/performance like it is capable of, as I know you would get. A friend got 155 on his block, on a dyno, he tells me! I’d bet $ you could get more !! I’ve heard that it can work with 200, but that seems like a pipe dream, eh. |
