Fabric Wiring Loom Sizing and Use - No JS information
I am trying to figure out which size of fabric loom to use on a May 1930 Cabriolet
I have access to remains of the front part of an original harness, which shows a very wide loom for the headlamp wires measuring 11/16 inner diameter. This, however is for a standard car with 3 wires to each lamp. Was a different (smaller) size used for the 2-wire harnesses ? Where else was fabric loom used to cover the wires ? -And which size was used in each place ? Did the fabric loom enter the hole into the light switch housing, or did the looms stop short of the housing ? What about the horn wire ? Did it leave the light switch housing inside the same loom as the headlight wires, and exit through a hole short of the headlight wires, or was the horn wire routed separately from the switch housing ? |

Best I can do to help is to point you to the vendors so you can see the pictures of the different harnesses and how they are assembled.

I see you are in Norway, I was going to suggest just getting from suppliers. Are there any outlets over there that you could just buy the whole harness from?

When you say "loom" I think of the heavy fabric loose fitting cover, such as used for the 30-1 generator to firewall wires.
Most of the wires are covered by a tight fitting cloth covering, which is made on the wire harness machine, so this only comes as part of the wiring harness. I'm not sure which you refer to. |

Braiding by its nature will form fit the wires like the fit of a woman's panty hose.

Bob -
Will the "JS" allow women's panty hose as an alternate wire covering? If so, would one use support hose or the standard hose? Flesh-colored or black? I would assume black. After all, black hose matters. As the lingerie salesman said when describing what he does: "I'm in women's lingerie". We should all have such a job! Marshall |

Re: Fabric Wiring Loom Sizing and Use - No JS information
The headlamp wiring from the radiator shell to the headlamp has a metal flexible covering, that is nickle plated brass on early cars, and stainless steel on later cars. Cars with one bulb in 28 and early 29 have a smaller diameter covering, and the later cars have a larger diameter housing, whether one bulb or two. The cloth covering that I think you are referring to was used in 30 and 31 trucks, but may have been used in locations other than the USA. Look at Bratton's antique ford parts on the internet, and you will see the different variations available.
