Have have gone over mine so many times I can do it blind folded. Mine runs best set exactly where Brian's is. When I position Rotor on left edge I get very little response when I advance and it idles very rough. I advanced slightly and it smoothed out and responses correctly. I run advance at 3/4 at speed .

I think the difference for mine is that I am running a Pertronix Ignitor. I have read that they can vary in the starting point for timing.

I have a timing kit coming and will post my results should verify.

Well, I have everything timed perfect, and behold...., it even looks correct, and runs perfectly.

You learn, by the sound, when the timing is PERFECT!
1-With spark up, it'll have a SMOOTH, EFFORTLESS, RYTHMICAL sound, like, TADA-TADA-TADA-TADA! (Well, that was Minerva's sound!)
2-At idle, with spark 1/2 way down, you'll have a FASTER, SMOOTH idle.
3- At idle, with spark FULL down, it'll have even a FASTER idle, BUT a sort of "ROLLING" idle.
When you have ALL these, it's perfect & DON'T DIDDLE with it
Another example, if you gapped the points to, say, .021" & they've closed back to, say, .016", just re-set the gap, grease the lobe & it's BACK to a perfect TDC. So, DON'T DIDDLE WITH IT! (WULL, thet's whut Chief taught me & he even worked part time @ Bill Ogans' Ford Dealership, in our little "jerkwater" town. He even worked part time, in our County Seat, for Buddy Boggs, "Mc CURTAIN COUNTYS' LARGEST UN-AUTHORIZED FORD CENTER"! Chief & those guys grew up together.)

I just wanted to drop a quick note of thanks to all you guys. I don't post a ton on here but try to read almost every post to learn as much as I can. I have had a timing issue for a little while now and have played around to try fixing it with no luck. I began thinking it wasn't timing. Thanks to a few posts (there were two similar timing threads recently), I decided to give it another try. The explanations and pictures you guys put up to help fellow barners was really helpful to me. I adjusted the timing on my car again last night and WHOA what a difference! Can't be any happier with how she purrs now!

Thanks again for your time and knowledge!
