Default 1940 Ford speedometer lubrication

Here is a picture of the rear of a 40 Ford speedometer unit. Is the brass plug removable for lubing the speedometer or is the small recess for lubing the speedometer. Mine starts bouncing after 40 mph, I have removed the cable and lubed it with speedometer lube but the problem still exists. I'm wondering if the recessed hole is where the mechanism is lubed. Thanks for any help.

I think yes, the cap is popped off and a wick is oiled.

Also, make sure the speedo cable feeds straight into the back of the instrument cluster and doesn't droop downward. I used a long plastic wire tie to support the cable under the dash so it feeds straight to the speedo.

Removing the brass plug does reveal an oil wick.
