Engine bolts torques
I know it's come up before. Does anyone have a chart for proper torques on engine bolts? What I really need is the torque for the timing cover bolts. Les Andrews left this one out of his chart on page 1-134. I'm figuring 30 or 40 lbs? these are 9/16 bolts.

Re: Engine bolts torques
The timing cover bolts are 3/8-16. The maximum torque for this size bolt of grade 5 and thread is 39 lb.ft. So 35-40 would be appropriate.

Re: Engine bolts torques
Some timing cover bolt holes extend into the timing gear areas. Put #2 PERMATEX on those bolt threads, or oil will spiral around those threads & LEAK out from the lockwasher slit!
