What do I have here?
Can anyone id these shocks and tell me what car they would be for? A Google search for Houdaille shocks showed the body style, but I haven't found any photos that match the levers with multiple bends. The set on the right appear to be a left and right and the other set I believe are both rights. The balls on all of the levers bolt on. The levers move, but they're pretty crusty, so I haven't located any numbers I can read yet. Any info appreciated.

Re: What do I have here?
Looks like V8 shocks. The ones on the right have the arms bent to fit the
Model A front. They will bend the brake rods because they stick out to far. Bob |

Re: What do I have here?
Thanks Bob C. They were in a box with some other Model A parts, so that's probably how they were used. I had never seen an arm like the set on the right. I looked for signs that they had been heated and bent, but didn't see any. Were those possibly an aftermarket accessory at some time?

Re: What do I have here?
I'm not sure of the years, but some of the earlier V8 shocks will bolt right on to the A frame, maybe only 32-24? They are bigger (thicker) than A shocks, with more damping power. Later ones have a wider bolt pattern.

Re: What do I have here?
I have 1 or 2 shocks like on the left, if yours same as mine, mounting does not fit the bolt holes in the frame. Smaller diameter, more height. Were in a box of 20 or so shocks I inherited from my dad. Since he had a Model T at one time, perhaps they are a Model T shock?

Re: What do I have here?
Thanks. Looks like they were an aftermarket accessory, the one I just saw on line by Hassler looks nothing like the Houdille shocks. Needed to do more research before posting on this one.

Re: What do I have here?
Most Hassler products were over load springs. I think any shocks were friction.

Re: What do I have here?
I put V8 shocks on the rear of my 31 pickup,(they won't fit on front) and thot they were a hell of a deal. then I hit a bad pothole and immediately had nearly zero brakes. left rear brake rod was stuck on top of shock seizing everything up. so I would not recommend using them.

Re: What do I have here?
Thanks for all the input. From the chart linked by 30 Closed Cab PU, I believe they're 36 or later as the bodies are not as smooth around the area where the levers attach. Next time I'm out in the garage I'll try to clean them up and try to find any markings and measure the distance between the mounting holes.
