48 Coupe Acelerator Return Spring
I went to install a new accelerator return spring on the firewall linkage of my 48 coupe. Slid it on and set it in the manner I thought would work, and I found the spring had no tension. What am I missing here? Does the spring have to be winded in anyway?

Wind the spring 360 degrees to increase its tension....

Do you mind me asking where you purchased your spring?

Re: 48 Coupe Acelerator Return Spring
I purchased it from Third Gen, where I buy most of my quality parts. Great service.

Re: 48 Coupe Acelerator Return Spring
Geez, that'd be from us... I ask only as we got a bad batch of these springs in a while back and a few got sent off without my catching it in time.. They were not wound properly. Yours might be one of those.
Can you PM me your name so I can find you in the computer and I'll overnight a NOS spring to you. Last edited by 35fordtn; 04-23-2019 at 01:06 PM. |

Re: 48 Coupe Acelerator Return Spring
Phil,
Attached is a photo of a NOS (right) and a correct reproduction (left). I have disposed of the incorrect new ones so I do not have a photo. However on the ones bent wrong, the loop or hook on the left as photographed would be bent downward instead of upward as photo’d. They are a bear to install and you do, as mentioned above have to twist them at a near 360 degrees to install. Be ready for sore fingers! I have overnighted you a replacement as we are closed the next ten days and I didn’t wish to risk you not having a correct one, even though yours I believe is the correct one after looking through sales dates.
