One piece Front crank seal
Getting ready to put the one piece speedway seal on a 29 a engine. Can’t remember if it requires a sleeve on the front pulley. When I did the 52 Mercury engine I thought I remember changing the spiral sleeve out for something different.
But the earlier motor has the spiral sleeve built into the crank pulley. Will it leak if assembled with the spiral groove? May be a speedy sleeve needs to be installed? Thanks, Ralph |

Re: One piece Front crank seal
Ralph, have always used the speedy sleeve to cover up the groves in the front pulley. Seem to remember somewhere that the one-piece seal needs that vs. the original rope seal. Good luck!!

Re: One piece Front crank seal
I never had an issue with the rope seal. Just saying.

You wouldn’t happen to have a part number for that speedy sleeve would you?

Re: One piece Front crank seal
If the seal surface does not have a groove worn in it, the spiral is not a problem.

Re: One piece Front crank seal
I'm with "alchemy". When I did my last engine, I ordered a one piece seal from Speedway. When I read the installation instructions (which called for filling the seal cavity with a bunch of RTV), I realized that the one piece seal was just an application of a close part in an application that it wasn't intended for. Use the rope seals, but follow the instructions to the letter.
