Re: Water pump Update
Why did it crack? … 80 years old, worn bearing with vibration, tight fan belt poor original casting, dropped while being removed or blasted. I had one in good shape and sand blasted getting ready to rebuild. When we added the new bearing it cracked the housing. Funny thing is the housing did not crack until a few days after we pressed in the bearing.

Re: Water pump Update
Possibly from driving out,or in the front bushing assembly, in an incorrect manner.

Re: Water pump Update
I would suspect that the press fit was just a tad too tight.

Re: Water pump Update
Katy was right the new bushing was too large to be installed in the housing. The housing measurement is 1.016 and the bushing measured 1.021. Five thousandth puts too much force on the housing without cracking it. It is a good lesson to all that quality control just is not present in today's market. We no longer can take for granted that since it is new it will fit properly.
