Water // Water pump issue ????
Hi all
Today I finally added the grease to the water pump. My last step for this year maintenance. Went for a ride. Did 5 miles and when I stopped the engine back on my garage the radiator drainage tube started to drain the cooling fluid. Could be around 1-2 glasses of water. To give an idea of volume. Then Stopped. I started the car, pushed the accelerator a couple of times, and again, when stopped the engine, the radiator drained coolant. Could be another glass of coolant. And I can hear like a "water bubling noise" with the engine stopped and then started to drain. This NEVER happened before. Neither when I did a 70 miles round trip a few weeks back. Today is 90F outside, but I drove with this temperature many times. Did I screwed something by adding the grease (2 pumps of the handle of a 3 OZ pump ), or ...... what do you think ? Thank you Daniel |

Did you “top off” the radiator coolant recently? How close to the top of the radiator is the coolant level?
I’ve never had issues with adding grease to the fittings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I fill my radiator near the top of the neck, my car will sputter water after a stop until the level reaches the top of the radiator baffle. Once at that level, it stops losing water at stops. The radiator likes to do find its own level.

Yes, I topped it a few weeks ago, before a 70 miles round trip. Thank you for your your answer. It relax me that there isn't a connection with my water pump greasing. Could be the hot day (90f) in MA today, with that topping, are the cause. Just scare the hell out of me because I greased the water pump just before the ride. And knowing "cero" about mechanics, well.... you understand. When I topped the radiator after the winter before the 70 miles ride it was much cooler. Probably around 50-55F. Thank you !!!! I will wait a cooler day to ride her again. She was probably shocked because we went from 60 to 90F in a couple of days. :-) Cheers Daniel |

Re: Water // Water pump issue ????
I always check my coolant level with the engine at operating temperature and coolant has expanded. Since it is not a pressurized system you can take the cap off when hot/running. If coolant is needed, I only fill to bottom of baffle.
