Default Hood Bumpers

On my 31 Tudor it has the triangle hood bumpers. I am going too purchase Bert's replacement kit but they show screw and nuts holding the bumpers in place. Wasn't a Hallow rivet used originally??? I can't find anything in the standards book on this. I have tried to do these rivets bucking them while the hood is in place. I suck at it obviously they are all loose is there a hand tool to use these rivets??

A black tubular rivet was originally used.

Semi-tubular rivets have been around for many years. They are easy to set as long as a person has the correct size tool for the rivet being set. Each different size requires a different setting tool that basically rolls the tube end out & over back toward the head end. They have to be soft enough for the rolled over end not to crack due to the stretching of the material. If the parts are steel then they would have to be in an annealed state to properly form.

Yeah I have the tool for peening the rivet, the problem I am having is getting something on the head side to buck it..... the hole in the rubber hinders getting anything in it so you can peen the rivet.

I have a rivet squeezer with tubular dies but it's expensive. A person could make a squeezer with the right size vice grip and home made dies welded on for the small rivet like that. What ever tool is used, it has to fit the rivet.

Yes, we use a modified C-clamp similar to the one pictured below however if you search for Tonka Toy Rivet Tool, you will likely find one you can purchase. I have uploaded a generic one to give you an idea on what to make if you fab your own.
