1933-34 flathead engine & vega cross steer need pix
Was hoping to use the new vega box (with reversed gear internal which gives counter-clockwise sector shaft rotation) in the stock location but probally they are cast iron case not cast steel case so no easy welding....so going to vega cross steer but need a pix of installation showing header clearance around boxx....thanks in advance for a pix or two....

Not sure you will get much input on vega steering box installation on this site. Maybe, but a street rod site might get you better responses.

Please accept my apology in advance but I am going to take the liberty of changing the direction of this thread slightly. What kind of experience have people had running an F1 box? This is not intended to discourage responses to the original post about the Vega box but I wanted to put the F1 on the table.

That is what I use (such as an F1 box in a 33 chassis), but I have never seen one set up for cross steering.

The 1949-52 FI steering box has the steering shaft below the sector shaft so the steering wheel ends up too close to the dash/windshiels and the column gets placed low between the pedals.

send " gearheadbill " a private message. He has just done this in a 34 pickup with an later 8BA flathead and Reds Headers. I'm sure he would gladly post or send pictures

I responded to others who sugested the 1948-52 FI steering box as a better choice by pointing out that that F1 box is unsutable because it has the steering shaft BELOW the sector shaft as opposed to the original 33-34 box which has the steering shaft ABOVE the sector shaft. |

Vegas are a nice modern little box the streetrod guys like. If you are looking for a period correct rod look at the F1 boxes. But it's whatever you choose of course.
Quick search on the hamb... F1 box info. I'll look for better posts. There is a bit to sort, might want to ask there in the hotrod section. It's changed over there, main hamb is general postings (everything collected), then period hotrods and customs. It does move pretty fast so be persistent. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...ering.1049331/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/f1-steering-box-in-31-model-a-frame.954115/ .
