Default 32-34 king pin or 35-36?

How does one differentiate between the 32-34 king pin and the 35-36?
They have different part numbers so Iím assuming there must be something different.

Thanks

the relationship of the retaining notch and the brake actuator, the angle of the opening for the actuator ---on a ford one near the notch is the id

Ok, anyone have the distance between the retaining notch and center of brake actuator?
Thanks

Its not so much the distance as the orientation; 32-34 the cotter groove is in the same plane as the flat face on the head, whereas 35-36, the notch is at an angle to the head; left and right hand to suit the appropriate side of vehicle

The ‘35-‘36 pins will be parallel to one another if the cups are placed together and the ‘32-‘34 pins will angle apart if checked the same way.

Based on Fordors response, these would be 32-34 pins.

This might help a little, I don't think the 1928-31 drawing is correct.

Found this in an old thread.
To determine if your king pins are A or B style place the king pin on a flat surface, cup facing down, The shaft of the king pin will angle upward. From the end of the king pin shaft measure to the level surface. A - king pin measures about .700 while a B- king pin measure .950. The B king pin has a steeper angle but unless you have then to compare it is hard to determine. The 35/6 style, the king pin shaft is almost parallel to the surface.

I have a new set of king pins , labeled 34 , but no brake cups .Does this mean I can use them on a 32 with juice brakes also?

That depends on where the notch is in relation to the head

And if they are the newer style with a peened over washer as the head; the washer will not take take the weight on the ball thrust bearing.

Even if the cap on top of the ‘37 and later pins was not a stamping only peened on the differences would not allow usage on a ‘36 and earlier spindle. I believe someone may have placed later king pins in the ‘32-‘34 box.
You need to consider the dimension under the top of the spindle to the notch, there needs to be space for the thrust bearing. If your k/p’s measure 5 3/8” long with a notch located 2 1/2” down then they are ‘37-‘41, while the ‘32-‘34 and ‘35-‘36 pins are 5 1/4” with a notch 2 27/32” down. It is the longer dimension to the notch that affords room for the thrust bearing on top of the spindle.
The ‘37 and later spindles have a greater span between the yokes for the thrust bearing to be placed below the axle and that is why the dimension to the notch measures less on those. Also, because of the raised projection on the top of the later ‘42-‘48 spindles those require a k/p 5 7/8” long with a notch 2 3/4” down.

Fordors info is correct, however, there is yet another kingpin not mentioned. English V8 Pilot's run a kingpin, dimensionally the same as 32-36, but without the cup for rod brakes. If 'my4dv8' had a set of those, he could indeed use them in the situation he mentions
