Default tires

i have the later 16" wheels on my 31 pickup, i like the looks and want to stay with them. a couple of years ago i bought some"new" 6.oox 16 tires at a swap meet. i should have known better, 6.00 x 16 havent been used in years and these were probably in somebodys warehouse for a bunch of years. they looked great until i put in new tubes and pumped them up. they look like a dried up mud hole with the cracks. so what do you guys recommend, i know coker has new 6.00x 16s if you have deep enough pockets. is there a modern tire at a reasonable price that will fit the 16" rims. radials? bias ply? this ain't no show truck, just a decent driver that won't see 1000 miles a year. suggestions please i can do my own mounting and balancing.

Here are all the sizes tire rack carries in 16"...

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/sizes...sp?diameter=16

You would need to measure the width and height of your 6.00 x 16's and compare with the "spec" field for each tire that Tire Rack offers to find something similar.

Attached is a picture of my truck with 16s.

Had limited funds at the time, could not afford Coker's.

Tubes are implement tubes from Tractor Supply, less expensive, but valve stems are quite long. My truck is a runner, not show, so I do not mind.

Tires have same circumference as originals, so no speedo issues. Since contact with the road is larger and they are not radials, takes more effort to steer.

A couple of people have told me I might run into more suspension and shock wear than normal. I do not mind, only run less than 1 K miles
or so a driving season.

No suspension mods.

If interested let me know and give me a day or to to find the info of what I bought.

Hey, that is the same set-up my uncle runs on my grandfather's old '30 sport coupe! I always thought the 16" wheels give the car a more aggressive stance. Looks GREAT on your pickup!

the old size is 6.00x16, when i go to the tire size converters on the net they ask for three dimentions. what are they after, the circumference? i know 6" is 152 mm. and of course 16" is the rimsize.

Hi Larry,

The tires are Tornels 7.00 x 16 LT, and I did buy them from Coker in 2011, four of them for $512

Tubes 700/750 x 16 Implement in 2011, four for $80

Pictures attached, Other printing looks like Spanish, made in Mexico?

Thanks, of course I like them too, purists not fond of them, but mine is not a show truck, is a runner. I think the 16s make it look more "truckish" This is the way my dad used to run it, another reason I want to keep the 16s, still have the originals if I ever want to go back.

Kelsey tire in Missouri makes the 6:00X16 Goodyear tires. A bit pricey but I consider them THE BEST. Nice people to deal with. Deal direct with manufacturer

i finally figured out the conversion tables(i think), but there doesn't seem to be a tire that matches what is available today. 6.00 converts to 152 mm. for instance my 02 f150 has 16" wheels but the tires(at 255 mm) are way wider than the old 6.00S. i would like to know the closest modern size that would work on my old rims. if i can find some cheep tires on line, k-mart, walmart or where ever that would probably be the way to go.

Perhaps ask the same question on the Barn Early V8 forum. They might have suggestions.

I looked and thought 195-80-16 looked like a good fit, but probably not the "cheap" option
