Hey! We are just trying to provide economical alternative for engine repairs that have been very satisfactory in the past. If you have the availabity to an original parts manual, you might take a look at it where you will find that the main bearing caps were sold under a separate idividual part number. I have two original NOS caps here in stock.

Bill Barlow is a excellent machinist who will do your babbiting and machining on your engine block and caps if required. He machines several hundred of each type at a time, when he sets up. He will work to .0000" or to .000 which ever you prefer.

Just my recomendation, give him a call. He was a Mafca president for a period of time.

Years ago I had the babbitt in rear main bearing cap fail it had cracked very bad. The rest of the engine bearings were in good condition. The engine also ran strong, smooth and quiet at 45 to 50 mph so I really didn't want to pull the engine and get into a whole re-babbitting job. I found a local fellow that specialized in babbitting. He had about 10 used rear main caps sitting on a shelf with good babbitt in them so we measured up several and found one that was very close. I carefully fit it in using prussian blue to get maximum surface contact and shimmed it for a .001 clearance. That was 20,000 miles ago and the engine is still running strong with little to no rear main oil leak so it can be done fellows.
